Conversation Starters

Churches should dedicate one post per week to creating conversations with their followers.

This content type will help your church build stronger relationships with your followers, resulting in greater trust and brand loyalty.

Action Plan

  1. Publish a conversation starter.

  2. Respond to each comment (unless it’s a troll or bot) within 24 hours.

  3. Use their responses as research for future content ideas, church events, etc.

Sample Conversation Starters

  • How many of you are looking forward to cooler weather in the fall?

  • Share your favorite after-church brunch spots.

  • How has your idea of God changed since you were a child?

  • How does Christ give you confidence?

  • What song do you hope the worship team sings tomorrow?

This free resource will provide your church with a full-year of conversation starters across five categories: general information, relationship building, church research, discipleship, and year end reflection.

Student-Related Content

  • Faith At School Tips: Share practical ways parents can help kids live out their faith at school. Share simple tips from your church’s preferred evangelism tool or Google “How to help kids live their faith at school” for additional resources.

  • Back To School Photos: With parental permission, post “Back to School” student photos. Include a prayer in the caption.

    • Dear Father, as the new school year begins, we lift up all students to You, asking for your presence to go with them every day. Fill them with your wisdom and understanding as they grasp new concepts and make wise choices. Keep them safe from harm and surround them with your loving presence. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

  • Bible Quiz Challenge: Quiz the students in your church with a fun Bible Reels trend. HERE is a great example from @thesocial.kc on Instagram.

    • Create two lines: Old testament and the New testament.

    • Recruit 3-5 people to participate. Have them form a line between the two lines above.

    • Turn on the camera. While standing behind the camera, call out Bible books. Participants move the correct side. Incorrect = out.

    • Keep filming until one winner remains.

    • Publish to social media.

Church Content

  • Sunday Takeaways: Ask your Livestream viewers to share their main takeaway from Sunday’s message.

    • Screenshot each takeaway. Place the screenshots over a photo of Sunday’s speaker.

    • In the caption, share “We love seeing your takeaways from Sunday’s message. Share your takeaway below.”

  • Monthly Events: Share an easy-to-read list or graphic of all September events.

  • Leader Spotlight: Spotlight the leaders in your church. In the caption, share information about their role, why you appreciate them, and how people can contact them for questions. Repeat weekly.

    • Simple: Share an Instagram carousel-style post. For the first frame, feature a headshot photo of the leader. Then share action shots of the person serving in various capacities in the remaining frames.

    • Advanced: Create a fun Reel or YouTube Short introducing your team members. See this great example from @highest.praisechurch on Instagram.

  • Ministry Highlights: Now that families are back from summer vacation, remind your followers of your available ministries. In the caption, share a very short statement about the ministry featured, and a website link to learn more. Repeat weekly, featuring a different ministry each week.

  • Worship Moment: Share a song lyric over a photo of a person worshipping in your sanctuary. Here’s a simple yet great example from @gatewaypeople on Instagram.

  • Baptism Celebration: WIth permission, share photos from your latest Baptism. In the caption or as a video voice over, explain what it means to be baptized. Ask your followers to welcome each person into the family of Christ.

  • Mission Trip Testimony: Share a testimony from a summer mission trip.

  • Fall Ministry Goals: Ask your ministry leaders to share what excites them the most this season.

  • Sunday Invite Video: Record one of your pastors inviting people to attend church the following Sunday. Have them share the topic for Sunday’s message and why people should not miss it.

Discipleship Content

  • “God is Bigger than” Series: Create a graphic stating God is bigger than your ______.

    • Duplicate the above graphic with common problems inserted in the blank spot. Example: anxiety and depression.

    • In the caption, share a Bible verse reminder about trusting God’s through life’s challenges.

  • Bible Character Traits: Share a Bible character and the characteristics that make up that character. For example: Three characteristics of a modern-day Boaz. Pro Tip: Ask your minister to create this piece of content for you.

  • Faith FAQ Series: Not everyone knows what it means when we use words like, “salvation” or “trinity". Create a series answering the frequently asked questions about Christianity from gotquestions.com.
